25% success fee only

No Win, No Fee

You pay nothing until we win your claim. Our fee comes out of your compensation.

TrainOwed operates on a pure no-win, no-fee model. You pay nothing to start, nothing during the process, and nothing if the claim fails. When we win your claim, we deduct a 25% success fee from the compensation the operator pays out. You receive the remaining 75%. Claiming directly with the operator is free, but many passengers give up after their first rejection. We handle the full process including appeals, which is where most claims are ultimately won.

Example Calculation

Here is a concrete example of how the numbers work.

  • Ticket priceEUR 120
  • Delay duration120 minutes (qualifies for 50%)
  • Compensation you are entitled toEUR 60
  • TrainOwed fee (25%)EUR 15
  • You receiveEUR 45

Without TrainOwed, you would need to submit the claim yourself, manage correspondence, and handle any appeals. The alternative is EUR 60 with significant time and effort, or nothing if you give up after a rejection.

TrainOwed vs. Claiming Directly

Both options can result in compensation. The question is how much time and effort you want to spend. Here is the honest tradeoff.

TrainOwed

  • You spend under 5 minutes total
  • We handle all correspondence and appeals
  • No fee if the claim fails
  • Higher success rate due to experience with operator processes
  • 25% success fee reduces your payout

Claiming Directly

  • No fee, you keep 100%
  • You handle all forms and operator portals yourself
  • High initial rejection rate, especially from larger operators
  • Appeals are time-consuming and require knowledge of the regulation
  • Many passengers give up and receive nothing
How our fee compares to the industry
The typical success fee charged by European compensation services ranges from 25% to 35%. TrainOwed charges 25%, in line with our sister service FlightOwed. There are no hidden charges on top of that.

Pricing Questions

When do I pay the fee?
You never pay upfront. The fee is deducted from your compensation after the operator pays out. If your claim fails, you owe nothing.
Does the 25% fee apply to the full ticket price or just the compensation amount?
The fee applies only to the compensation amount we recover for you, not your original ticket price. If you are entitled to EUR 60 in compensation, our fee is EUR 15, and you receive EUR 45.
Are there any other fees or charges?
No. There are no registration fees, no document fees, no admin charges, and no fee if the claim is unsuccessful. The 25% success fee is the only charge.
What if the operator offers me a voucher instead of cash?
Under EU Regulation 2021/782, you have the right to receive cash compensation. You can accept a voucher if you prefer, but it must be at least the same value as the cash entitlement. We recommend cash, and that is what we claim on your behalf by default.
Can I claim directly without using TrainOwed?
Yes. Submitting a claim directly to the operator is free. The tradeoff is that you handle all the correspondence, appeals, and follow-up yourself. Operators reject a significant proportion of first-time claims, and many passengers give up at that point. TrainOwed handles everything including appeals, which is where most of the value is.
